Audition

The Canadian Chamber Choir seeks diverse singers who love choral singing and are committed to professional vocal collaboration and music making.

Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria, through their audition, resume, and references:

  • Experience and training in healthy vocal production, ideally in a variety of styles
  • Experience in choral ensembles, demonstrating adaptable and well-rounded musicianship
  • Ability to sing independently among close harmonies (1 per part).
  • Ability to demonstrate a variety of vocal colours:

1) full, resonant, classical sound with vibrato

2) light, breathy quality

3) clear, pingy sound with less vibrancy (“straight” tone)

4) mixed belt or belt approximation

  • Musical literacy skills
  • Independent ability to learn a variety of repertoire in different languages
  • Dependability and collegiality
  • Ability to contribute successfully to the ensemble, to support ensemble unity, and to foster belonging in the communities of the CCC

Additional training/experience with non-classical/non-Eurocentric musical styles is an asset, as are skills in other areas of musical training (education, instrumental experience, composition, language facility etc.).

Applicants do not need to have completed a music degree but should have achieved a professional level of performance through experience, education, or a combination of these.

Successful applicants will be required to adopt the Canadian Chamber Choir’s Values, Mission, Vision and Harassment Prevention Policy. Singers must also be comfortable participating in educational outreach and collaboration projects in diverse communities.

Please submit:

1) A cover letter/email indicating your interest in the Canadian Chamber Choir

The Guest Conductor Program

About the Guest Conductor Program

The Guest Conductor Program provides intensive exposure to conducting a professional ensemble. A successful applicant will join the Canadian Chamber Choir for an entire project. The Conducting Fellow will have the opportunity to conduct the CCC in both rehearsal and performance on repertoire to be determined jointly with the Artistic Director. The Fellow may also sing with the ensemble, as determined by the Artistic Director in advance of the project. The Fellow will gain valuable experience learning, preparing, and rehearsing challenging repertoire with feedback from the ensemble and the Artistic Director. Utilize this rare opportunity to communicate your own musical ideas to an exceptional ensemble.

Objectives:

  • to provide working Canadian conductors with the opportunity to hone their skills through intensive study, rehearsal and performance in the field with an outstanding ensemble.
  • to give conductors the opportunity for an enriching musical experience through immersion in a professional music making environment.

Please visit the Guest Conductor Program page for complete information.
