The Canadian Chamber Choir is excited to announce its upcoming tour of Winnipeg and Brandon, Manitoba this September 21 through 29.
Previous visits to the province were made in 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2009, the latter of which featured the recording sessions for our debut album, In Good Company.
After nearly 10 years, it’s time to come back!
“The CCC is delighted to be returning to Manitoba,” says Artistic Director Dr. Julia Davids. “Many of us remember fondly our very first concert, held in Brandon seventeen years ago! We’re excited to be reconnecting with good friends and fans from previous tours.”
Singers will arrive on September 21 and begin rehearsals on location at the Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre in Beausejour, located approximately 1.5 hours outside of Winnipeg.
This retreat portion of our tour will allow for important behind-the-scenes work for the ensemble, with a particular focus on the development of a new choral commission by NWT composer, Carmen Braden on issues of water, especially through an Indigenous lens. This tour will also mark the debut of a new outreach program intended to mentor emerging professional choral singers. BC Soprano Anna-Marie Ryan will serve as the first Apprentice Singer and will assist in designing this program.
On September 25, the choir will head to Winnipeg for a concert and gala reception. Our singers will present their acclaimed, all-Canadian ‘Seasons of Life and Landscape’ program in an intimate venue – a rare opportunity made all the more special by the reception to follow, featuring canapés, refreshments, and the chance to get to know these 23 choral superstars from coast to coast.
Workshop collaborations in Winnipeg will include a residency at the University of Manitoba with Dr. Elroy Friesen and his students.
The latter portion of the tour will be spent in Brandon with students from Crocus Plains Secondary School, Neelin High School and Vincent Massey High School, as well as singers from the Konektis and Prairie Blend choirs.
The CCC’s trip to Manitoba will culminate in a performance on September 28 with Prairie Blend at Knox United Church.
“Manitoba is a special province for the CCC – our first ‘home!'” says Davids. “In addition, four of our long-time singers are Manitobans: Sandy Jasper (Brandon), Naomi Russell (Brandon), Jereme Wall (Winnipeg), and Karla Ferguson (Winnipeg). The CCC is pleased to bring phenomenal singers from all over Canada to join them as we showcase outstanding Canadian music and collaborate with some of the rich choral communities of Manitoba.”
