Join us in welcoming Yellowknife-based conductor and music educator Margo Nightingale, who has been selected by our Artistic Team as the Canadian Chamber Choir’s 2019 Conducting Fellow.

“We are very excited to work with Margo Nightingale in her role on our upcoming tour of Yellowknife and Edmonton,” said Davids. “Margo brings a wealth of experience as a singer and conductor and will conduct the CCC in rehearsal and performance along with singing in the alto section.”

Hometown audiences will have the chance to watch and support Margo as she conducts the CCC in Yellowknife on October 12. She will lead the ensemble on the first two movements of Laura Hawley’s In Song suite with the composer at the piano. In addition, she’ll conduct the combined forces of Aurora Chorealis and the Canadian Chamber Choir on Don MacDonald’s “Tabula Rasa.”

More about Margo Nightingale:

A lifelong chorister, Margo has been conducting Aurora Chorealis since about 2000. Through the presentation of diverse repertoire, she seeks to engage and challenge, to encourage vocal confidence, to expand people’s understanding of “choir” and to develop community connections.  A practicing mediator and lawyer, singing and conducting the choir keeps her refreshed and creative. In 2019, she was awarded the individual Outstanding Volunteer Award for the NWT for her longstanding role with Aurora Chorealis. Margo has most recently been a performing member in Yellowknife’s Ursa Miners, Midnight Soul, various jazz combos and now the Canadian Chamber Choir.

More about our Conducting Fellow Program:

The Canadian Chamber Choir’s Conducting Fellow Program offers emerging or established Canadian choral conductors a unique opportunity to hone their skills through the preparation and rehearsal of challenging repertoire under the leadership of CCC Artistic Director Dr. Julia Davids and Associate Conductor Dr. Joel Tranquilla. Conductors will benefit from advanced in-depth training and immersion in a professional music-making environment while on tour with the CCC.
