Introducing our 3 Singer Apprentices for Fall 2019!

The Canadian Chamber Choir is thrilled to have three young singers joining us in Yellowknife this October as part of our Singer Apprentice program. CCC welcomes Margo Nightingale as 2019 Conducting Fellow

The CCC remembers Dominic Gregorio

The Canadian Chamber Choir is devastated to hear of the death of Dominic Gregorio, singer, music educator, and conductor. Dom was a friend and admired colleague to many of us in the CCC. We ‘grew up’ beside him in the National Youth Choir and other ensembles. He was one of the first singers in the CCC before going on to graduate studies and changing the lives of so many through his compassionate and inspired leadership. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact within Canada’s vibrant choral community and steer the course of a Juno-nominated vocal ensemble. CCC performs ‘Vision Chant’ at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights

The Juno-nominated Canadian Chamber Choir had the pleasure of performing “Vision Chant” during a tour of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on September 26, 2018. The piece was composed by Winnipeg-based Cree composer, Andrew Balfour, and is a fixture of the CCC’s all-Canadian “Seasons of Life and Landscape” concert programming.

All week our hearts have been breaking for the community of Humboldt as they come to terms with such a horrific loss. Today, we learned that Dayna Brons, the Broncos’ athletic therapist, has also died. We had the good fortune to meet and be hosted by Dayna and her family on our most recent tour through Saskatchewan when we sang a concert in Marysburg, Dayna’s hometown. Our hearts break all over again. Hockey players or musicians – in a place like Canada, the reality is much the same. Miles and miles of travel, rain or shine. But also, the embrace…

A founding member of the Canadian Chamber Choir and its Artistic Director since 2003, Dr. Julia Davids has led the ensemble on concert and workshop tours of every province, and conducted four recordings including their Juno-nominated 2015 release, Sacred Reflections. Born in London, Ontario, she grew up singing in the Amabile Youth Singers, the Ontario Youth Choir, and the National Youth Choir, for whom she was the first Apprentice Conductor. She is currently the Stephen J. Hendrickson Professor and Director of Choral Activities at North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of choral conductors and committed to giving emerging and established Canadian composers a forum for their work. Read More

Dr. Joel Tranquilla is a conductor and music educator noted for his versatile musicianship and creative programming. Associate Conductor of the Canadian Chamber Choir since 2015, Joel also recently returned home to the Maritimes to assume the positions of Artistic Director of the Halifax Camerata Singers and Chorus Master of Symphony Nova Scotia. Formative choral experiences include touring with the American Boychoir as a boy soprano and singing as a member of the Nova Scotia and National Youth Choirs. He holds degrees from Mount Allison University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State University where his doctoral research was in the area of Canadian choral-orchestral works. Read More
