The Canadian Chamber Choir (CCC) is thrilled to announce its return to Saskatchewan Feb. 3-11, 2o18 for a series of engagements in Regina, Marysburg and Saskatoon. In fact, we’ll be there throughout “Choral Week” as designated by the Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport in the province.

Previous visits to the Saskatchewan in 2005 and 2010 yielded fruitful collaborations and fond memories. “We are looking forward to collaborating again with Kamala and the Saskatoon Children’s Choir – two organizations that are doing great things for the young people of Saskatchewan,” says CCC artistic director, Dr. Julia Davids. “We were so taken by the work of their directors Phoebe Voigts (SCC), and Dianne Gryba and Joanne Kasper (Kamala) when we were last in SK – it will be an honour to perform along with their outstanding young singers.”

Following a day of rehearsals, the tour will begin with a joint concert on Feb. 4 with both groups at Knox United Church, Saskatoon. The following day, the CCC singers and artistic team will head southward to Regina to serve as the featured clinicians at the Saskatchewan Choral Federation’s Optimist ChorFest, mentoring hundreds of amateur singers from all over the province on Feb. 5, 6 and 7.

Additional workshops will be offered for school and community ensembles throughout Regina and Saskatoon between Feb. 3 and 11. Other outreach initiatives will include concerts for students at St. Mary’s Community School (Saskatoon) and residents of several Eden Care facilities in Regina.

On Feb. 7, the CCC will visit Marysburg for a performance with St. Peter’s Chorus. [Details here.] “Our all-Canadian choral program entitled ‘Seasons of Life and Landscape’ will explore music that reflects the four seasons and will include pieces by Saskatchewan natives Joni Mitchell and Leora Joy Godden,” says Davids.

“We’re also excited by our new collaborations,” she adds, “not only in Marysburg with the St. Peter’s Chorus, but in Saskatoon with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra.” The CCC has been invited by the SSO to perform Karl Jenkins’ moving work The Armed Man alongside the University of Saskatchewan’s Greystone Singers, opening the program with a solo performance of Jocelyn Morlock’s Exaudi.

The CCC gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the SOCAN Foundation and the Lloyd Carr-Harris foundation in making this project possible.
